Workout on the Go

Like many of you, I'll be traveling for the upcoming Labor Day weekend. I'm getting ready for a road trip to Charleston, SC for the week so I really need to plan for my workouts. While I am so excited to visit, I'm planning what I'll be taking in addition to my entire closet! (Not really...just MOST of my closet!)

I will be working out everyday and here's how I'll do it:
1. I like to use the surrounding area to workout, especially when I'm in a beautiful place like Charleston. I'll take walks and runs at the beach as well as the many parks available.
2. I always take a resistance band with me. They're (and I've said this 100 times!) so easy to travel with as they're light weight and easy to pack.
3. This is a great time to focus on core. Since I won't be paying a day rate to go to a gym, I'll be getting in a ton of training for the abs and low back.
4. Bodyweight workouts will be a staple! As you know from some of my recent posts, I'm really into bodyweight workouts right now. I love them for a number of reasons and when you travel they are particularly convenient. I'll be doing lots of pushups, squats, lunges, mountain climbers, squat jumps, squat thrusts and more!

Be good and be healthy over the holiday weekend! Don't forget to get your workouts in no matter where you are!

The 4 Most Important Exercises - No Equipment Required

The 4 Basic Bodyweight Exercises

1. Push Ups
2. Pull Ups
3. Squats
4. Lunges

These 4 exercises will work all of your muscle groups. Not only that, but they are a testament to your true strength. Can you push, pull, squat and lunge your own weight? And can you do it correctly?

Do It For Yourself! The fact of the matter is that every single person should be able to do at least a few push ups (military style!), pull ups, squats and be able to lunge. It's important to be able to push your body, pull your body and bend your knees. What if you ever HAD to pull your body? What if you fell in your home and pushing your body off the floor was essential to move toward the phone to call for help? These are the types of things that we tend to conveniently forget about.

No More Excuses! You don't need one single piece of equipment to get a workout in with these four exercises (except a bar - which is easily found at a park, gym or by getting a simple pull up bar for home). Go to a park, the beach or workout in your living room. Here is a simple workout utilizing these four movements:

The Workout:
Push Ups - 3 Sets of 20
Pull Ups - 3 Sets of 20
Squats - 3 Sets of 20
Lunges - 3 Sets of 20 Each Leg
