Start Your Habit

We found this photo on FitSugar.com. Studies say it takes 21 days to form a habit. Our suggestion: journal your 21 days of consistent exercise and nutrition to form your healthy lifestyle habit. Whether your goal is to lose weight, gain endurance, clean up your eating habits or simply get back into working out, it’s important to hold yourself accountable. If need be, get a partner to join in with you…or a spouse or significant other. No matter your goal, start your habit today!

7 Summer Fit Outdoor Activities

Summer is here and that means it is time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air! Working out in the outdoors is a great way to change up your routine. There are so many great Summer activities that are not in the traditional workout realm but that will provide a good workout none the less. Here is our list of fit Summer activities that will keep you in tip-top shape!
1. SUP – Stand Up Paddle Boarding can be done on the ocean, lake and on some rivers. No matter where you live, SUP is sure to be offered (or somewhere close). This combo activity mixes the concepts of surfing and kayaking and will challenge your balance, strengthen your core and use muscles you forgot you had! More Info: Stand Up Paddle Boarding
2. Beach Volleyball – Talk about getting a great workout in! As if volleyball isn’t a great workout in itself, add the sand and you are challenged in a whole different way. Sand or beach volleyball are most often found at the beach but many cities have added sand courts to parks. Check your local area for sand courts available.
3. Kayaking – Yes, you can kayak in other times of the year but Summer seems like the perfect season to really take advantage of this sport. Kayaking can be done anywhere and with all of the themed kayak excursions going on now, you are sure to find a tour or class in your area that will provide both a physical workout and great knowledge about the eco system or area you are kayaking in. Kayaking is great for lakes, rivers, rapids (advanced kayakers) as well as the ocean.
4. Surfing – Surf your day away! We love water activities in the summer and surfing is the perfect way to incorporate both. You’ll paddle, push yourself up, paddle some more and enjoy the salty sea water while you do it. Surfing is a great way to challenge your core strength, upper body strength and balance.
5. Hiking – Hiking is a great way to discover a new area and include friends or family on your outdoor excursion. Anyone can hike and there is a wide range of hikes from the beginner level to an advanced level. Hikes, including guided hikes, can be found in any area. In fact, hiking tours can be found all over the world and can be incorporated in as an active vacation. This is a great way to get your workout in while experiencing the outdoors.
6. Swimming – The pools are finally open and the lakes and oceans are heating up so it’s time to hit the water! Water works many muscles at one time and provides no impact so this is a great cross training alternative. The water provides a great platform for swimming laps, toning in the water or even an active family activity. Whether you’re swimming laps or swimming for fun, this activity is a great way to get your heart pumping and keep yourself cool in the outdoor heat!
7. Tennis – Foot speed, coordination, hand eye coordination, cardiovascular endurance, balance and strength are all challenged in the game of tennis. This sport can provide a great interval workout while having fun. Whether you play singles or doubles, tennis is not only a good way to burn some calories but also a great way to get involved and socialize. Take it to the court if you can! Tennis is offered in leagues and lessons for beginners – advanced players.
Get out of the gym and into the outdoors this Summer! It’s time to challenge your body in a different way and relax your mind in a natural environment. Come visit us at Vita Vie Retreat for a fitness spa camp or an active vacation!
