Kick, Punch & Jump! Hit Me!

Yesterday I gave the opportunity to the boot campers to beat me up a little bit. During kick, punch and jump, I brought out the mitts and let them have a go at punching and kicking. It was such a great time and such a fun stress reliever!

I'm pretty sure they would have truly kicked and punched me given the opportunity to hit me without retaliation. I made it clear that I could make them hurt if they decided to seize the opportunity to try to inflict any bodily harm on me. Nevertheless, I was kicked and punched a few times from sheer mishitting the target which was both comic relief and a little painful! :)

Judging from the laughter, grunting and sweat, I think all had a great time. We'll definitely be making the mitts part of the weekly routine.

Jumping Off Point

There comes a point in time in most people's lives that calls for a jumping off point. Many times clients are concerned about working out too rigorously because they're not in shape, they are too heavy or they're worried about the risk of injury when it comes to beginning a new exercise program. Guess what! If you don't begin, if you don't try it and if you never start you will never succeed with your health and fitness goals.

The jumping off point refers to that scary, uncomfortable and sometimes painful point in which you realize that you have the option to sink or swim. Sometimes it is painful when you begin a new fitness regimen for many reasons. First you may have muscle & joint pain, next comes the possibility of an emotional roller coaster of adhering to a new healthy lifestyle and lastly comes that mix of a little bit of a self defeated, poor me attitude and you've got yourself a true "jumping off point syndrome." But, if you can work through this mish mosh of emotional and physical agony and you can commit yourself to your own body, the rewards will far outweigh any negative aspect of the experience.

Getting to Your Jumping Off Point Safely & A Few Tips for the Ride...

1. Get a Physical - mention to your doctor that you're beginning a new healthy regimen
2. Have a Plan - nutritionally, mentally and physically
3. Journal Your Progress - look back to see where you felt great or felt tired, mark days when you had a great workout or did really well with eating
4. Set Short Term Goals - 4-8 weeks out
5. Set Long Term Goals - 3-6 months out
6. Reward Yourself Along the Way - but don't go overboard!

Ready to Jump? Good luck! Your health and fitness future lies in you! :)

Creative Workout? Share with Us!

I recently encountered a twitter friend who was unable to get a workout in due to the snow...or so she thought. As it happens, she ended up not being able to run in the morning snow but she did end up pulling her child on a sled in the snow and got in an amazing workout! Much to her surprise it was fun and satisfied both her need to work out and her child's desire to be in the snow.
