The Very Least You Can Do In Your Life is Hope
I like the writer, Barbara Kingsolver. She has some very thoughtful words and expresses them through her writings and books. Here are a few of my favorite quotes from her...
"The very least you can do in your life is figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance, but live right in it, under its roof."
"Don’t try to make life a mathematics problem with yourself in the center and everything coming out equal. When you’re good, bad things can still happen. And if you’re bad, you can still be lucky."
"Value is not made of money, but a tender balance of expectation and longing."
"Sadness is more or less like a head cold - with patience, it passes. Depression is like cancer."
"The average food item on a U.S. grocery shelf has traveled farther than most families go on their annual vacations." - Quote in the book, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

We are living in tough times...
A friend recently said to me, "We are living in tough times, Margot. Get as much relaxation in as you can."
It's true and although I think people have stress in their lives no matter what, it's even more important that we take the time to relax when we can. Stress can be a huge obstacle in life, weight loss and health. Try some of these simple tips to help destress your body.
1. Breathe - Throughout the day try to remember to breathe deeply. Take long inhales through the nose and slowly inhale the breath out through your mouth. Try this 10 times in a row.
2. Turn Off Your Computers & TV's - Try turning off your electronics 2 hours before bed time to help your body and your mind relax before going to sleep.
3. Treat Your Body Right - Workout, eat healthy, hydrate and get regular massage if you can.
4. Ask Yourself if it's Worth it - Is what's stressing you really worth the worry? Our reaction to stress is half the battle.
5. Do One Nice thing for Someone Each Day - Spread the positive energy, smile and help others destress too!

How to Survive a Family Weekend - Nutritionally & Physically
My family is coming into town today. I'm so excited! I need to start planning how I'll escape this weekend without too much damage done though! If you're going to visit friends and family or they're coming to visit you, here are some good tips to keep your fitness and nutrition in check.
1. Drink water!!!! Remember, water helps flush out metabolic impurities so remaining hydrated is extremely important.
2. Portion control - If you can't measure your food, use the eyeball method. Protein size should be the size and thickness of the palm of your hand (no fingers!), Carbohydrates - size of a clenched fist (starchy carbs - veggies are free!), Fat - size of the tip of your thumb.
3. Get your workouts in! You must, must, must keep burning those extra calories. You might have to find creative ways to workout like running the stairs in your own house or pulling out a power yoga dvd. I like to slip away for early morning runs/walks before my family even gets up.
Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! ~Margot

AM Habits to Establish
It's early and as I get ready to go to the hotel to begin our day, I thought I'd take a minute to talk about how to start your day and how the morning can be so important!
1. What you eat for breakfast starts the tone for your day nutritionally. This is why it's important to have a balanced breakfast.
2. Start drinking water when you wake up. Get a head start on your daily hydration and increase your metabolism by drinking cold water.
3. Get your morning workout in. Chances are by the end of the day, you'll find an excuse as to why you can't get your evening workout in. Get it over with in the morning!
4. Plan! Begin thinking about how your day will go nutritionally. What will I have for lunch? Can I pack my lunch? What would be a great healthy dinner?
5. Smile! Start your day off on the right foot with a positive attitude. Think about what you do want and not about what you don't want!
Have a fantastic day!

Strength Builds in Increments...
Ever feel like you just want to be at your goal? You just want to be strong or fitter or lose more weight or able to do that push up or finally learn how to let go of stress before it latches on forever. We all have personal goals and goals are important. Most of these goals whether they're related to strength of the body or mind build in increments. Not only do the physical disciplines build in increments but so does learning how to relax and let go of stress.
Helpful hints:
Journal your progress - this way you can look back to where you started or where you were last week.
Test yourself once a week - make short term goals that are achieveable and you'll reach them.
Pat yourself on the back - acknowledge your progress and be happy for yourself. Whether big or small, progress is progress and it counts.

If You're Going To...
If you're going to be passionate about something, be passionate about learning.
If you're going to fight something, fight for those in need.
If you're going to question something, question authority.
If you're going to lose something, lose your inhibitions.
If you're going to gain something, gain respect and confidence.
And if you're going to hate something, hate the false idea that you are not capable of your dreams.

Thalasso (TM)-Fit : The Vita Vie Retreat Training Method
I'm so excited to introduce Thalasso(tm)-Fit to all of you! Thalasso(tm)-Fit is the Vita Vie Retreat Training Method explained. In combination with the spa at the Marriott, NSpa, we're explaining why it's so important to workout at the beach and what it can do for you. NSpa will also be offering Thalassotherapy treatments beginning the first week of December to complement your retreat.
Vita Vie Retreat utilizes the Thalassotherapy philosophy in combination with a unique blend of functional and dynamic full body training to enhance weight loss, relieve painful and tired joints and aid in rehabilitation of past injuries.
The ancient Greeks developed their own system of water-based therapies which used the healing elements and properties from the Mediterranean Sea, titled Thalassotherapy. Thalasso, meaning “sea” in Greek was used to revitalize, rejuvenate and refresh the mind, body and soul. Breathing in the healing sea air, rich in negative ions and sea minerals, aids in this revitalizing and healing process. Walking on the edge of the ocean as well as in the water allows for the inhalation of sea minerals such as sodium, magnesium, chloride and sulphate which are then absorbed through the lungs and directly into the blood stream.
Sodium, the main positive ion found in sea water, is also found in extra-cellular fluids in our bodies. These fluids, such as blood plasma, bathe cells and carry out important transport functions for nutrients and waste. Positive magnesium ions are also used by the body and are an ingredient of some medicines like Epsom salts, which are commonly used to treat aches and pains. Negative chloride ions also play an important physiological role in the central nervous system and in transporting protein around the body. The effect of Thalassotherapy can be profound. Thalassotherapy has a beneficial effect on the skin, cellular exchange, respiratory system and the whole body as there will be increased oxygenation, elimination of toxins and a revitalization of the mind and body.
With many beach walks and activities included in the schedule, Vita Vie Retreat incorporates the healing of the sea and the sea air to aid in the optimal function of your body. In addition to your body’s revitalization, Thalasso-Fit is also a great benefit to the mind. The sea remains a place where people relax, rejuvenate and renew.

Clients from Around the World
What an amazing time we're having at the retreat right now. I love our growing international crowd! It's so exciting to meet so many different people from all over the world. Each week changes, flows and fluctuates with people arriving and departing. We have clients from all walks of life and now from all over the world.
This week marks an especially interesting week for us. For the first time ever, we do not have anyone in the retreat who lives in the United States. Our clients are from the following countries: United Kingdom, Haiti, Canada, Costa Rica, Switzerland and France. What an amazing mix of people!
We still love our US clients but appreciate all of you who travel from so far away to attend the retreat!
Happy October 1st to all!
